Help us to celebrate our 100th.
Centenary Celebrations
Kippen Street Evangelical Union Church was situated in various points within the Coatdyke Area, firstly using the Orange Halls in Southburn Road and we used the premises of Rochsolloch Primary School and of course the ‘tin hut’. During this period men of vision met together, lead by the Rev John Edmonston and after extensive enquiries and negotiations the current premises were constructed and opened in 1911.
Our church building over the years has undergone extensive refurbishment, whilst we have tried to retain the overall character of the premises. Improvements include a new roof on the sanctuary, new pew cushions and the repainting of the sanctuary and a state of the art digital organ. We have installed a new disabled toilet and stair lift; two new boilers for both the halls and sanctuary and both premises have sound systems, with induction loop system for the hard of hearing. It is our hope to install a brand new kitchen in our premises soon and to modernise some aspects of our church hall and our premises are protected by CCTV.
We believe we have a future and look forward to celebrating our first 100 years as Coatdyke Congregational Church. Coatdyke has always struggled one way or another since it was built, it was never a rich congregation but it is rich with faith, people, talent and willingness. We see no real reason why successive generations cannot celebrate other milestones.
We look forward to celebrating our centenary of the building in 2011 and if you have any information or old photographs that you can share of Coatdyke please contact us, as we hope to put something together for our 100th celebrations.
