On Sunday 21st June we had out 'Fun Day' after the service at Coatdyke. We had a BBQ, food, drinks and games for the children to play (along with some of the adults). Sumo wrestling outfits were available for the young and for the young at heart. There was one adult Spiderman sumo suit - and our very own Jimmy Shaw (Deacon) donned the outfit and jumped around our sanctuary.
Once outside (the weather was kind) we had much fun and the highlight for many was simply to see their minister soaked as he stood in the 'stocks.' One of our Deacons, Lynn Carlin decided to go one better than everyone and threw the bucket of water over him but there is an old saying, 'revenge is a dish best served cold.
Talking of dishes, the BBQ went down a treat as did the sandwiches and other goodies. Unfortunately, the minister missed out on a burger or hot dog as he was tied up with some members of the congregation as they met to discuss the new arrangements for the 'Sunday School.'
We decided not to make this a large event and kept it quiet within the Federation, so we only invited members of Ebenezer and Pilgrim Congregational Churches along. I was delighted to see members of Ebenezer visit us for a while on the day and perhaps this is the just the beginning of a new friendship and fellowship between our two churches.
All in all, it was a wonderful afternoon and our thanks must go to Lynn, Jimmy, Walter and the members of the Mission Team along with any others who I have forgotten to include.
May this be the beginning of many more such events.
It is hoped to post some pictures of the event in the near future but Mr Site and the Webmaster are both having some technical issues at this time!
